TRIP DESCRIPTION

This excursion leaves the Resort at 10 AM and returns around 4 PM.
In approx. 90 minutes we sail along the scenic coastline to Manono Island, the island with no cars and no dogs. Along the way we troll some lures and if we are lucky we catch a fish for dinner or to offer our host at Manono.
This island is completely enclosed by reef and the colours of the crytal clear water are simply stunning.
When we anchor "Shilo II" near the reef, hardly anyone can resist to jump into the 27-29 degrees war water for a swim or a snorkeling excursion to discover the fascinating underwater world, accompanied by our experienced guides. Don't worry if you have never snorkeled before: our staff will give you all the assitance needed to both, adults and children.
Of yourse you can also stay on the boat and listen to Nature's Music, a cold drink in your hand.
Home-made lunch and drinks will be served at the beach of Apai village where "Tui", the High Chief will be welcoming us. Have a chat with him and the friendly locals who will show you how to weave a basket, husk coconuts and make coconut-cream.
Stroll through the villages and learn some about Samoan tradition and culture.
Depending on wind and tide we return going inside or outside the reef to the Resort.

ABOUT MANONO

Traditional Manono Island is ituated 4 Km off the west coast of Upolu.
The tranquil little haven has just four fishing villages with most houses being traditional fales. This is the third larges island of Samoa, but has an area of only three square kilometres and was in years gone by, the most important of the group of islands in a political sense, for it was here that the highest chiefs lived.
In Manono there is a very Samoan atmosphere, no noise, no dogs, no vehicles, no roads.
It takes a leisurely two hours to walk around the coastal track, passing several palm fringed beaches. Inland trails lead to several interesting archeological sites including the ancient starmound on top of Mt. Tulimanuiva.
manono is the third most populated island with a population of about 1200.
This is a real paradise for anyone looking for adventure, friendly people and an island that has hardly changed in the last 100 years.
Life is very different than elsewhere. The men go to the coral reef spear-fishing every morning on their traditional canoes and come back only once they catch enough fish to feed the family.
About 700 m off the North-west corner of Manono is Nu'ulopa island, for years used as the burial grounds of one of the Manono families.
